Bioactive Natural Compounds

The Research Institute for Bioactive Natural Products (RIBNP) is an interdisciplinary research and educational partnership between scientific staff of NKUA and the respective research teams specializing in Natural Product Chemistry, Biology and Medicine.
Through RIBNP, NKUA aims to promote and strengthen the innovative research concerning the discovery of novel pharmacologically active natural products from the Greek terrestrial and marine biodiversity, as well as their promotion through targeted clinical trials and interventions.
RIBNP is a constantly evolving network that supports the necessity for interdisciplinarity. The network approaches innovation through a holistic view, from the collection of raw material (plants, marine organisms, microorganisms), the characterization and identification of bioactive molecules till the evaluation of their biological properties.
The research activities are also reflected in the educational level, as they are framed by the creation of new interdisciplinary postgraduate specialization diplomas.
Through existing and new postgraduate specialization diplomas, young researchers have the opportunity to come into contact with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, to be trained in state-of-the-art technologies, and to collaborate with internationally prestigious research teams belonging to the RIBNP.
